Well what a busy week?!?!?! I found out on Monday that there is a published author that has recently moved to our community.  I am hoping he phones me soon so we can arrange a "MEET THE LOCAL AUTHOR" evening.  I am keeping his name under wraps until I have his permission.  Also in the works is a "Local Politican" meet and greet.  I am hoping to get our Athabasca County rep, Jack Dowhaluck and possibly our r... What a fabulous day for our library! I went to the Library Sale that the wonderful folks at the Lac La Biche Library was holding.  They are in the process of moving into their fabulous new facility at the Bold Center and were selling off surplus goods.  They had shelving, furniture, chairs, garbage cans, book ends.. oh yeah some books too. So we have four sections of tall shelving, three super cute red kiddie chairs, a kick step stool, ... More...

I think I may be the last person on the planet to read Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Fabulous read, she's funny, sarcastic, humble and brave.  Love the book, now must see the movie with Julia Roberts.  Hopefully it measures up. Read The Last American Man by Elizabeth Gilbert as well.  Very entertaining.   Eustace Conway has made his home in the Appalachian Mountains, mastering the art of self-sufficient ... More...

July 12 was a banner day for our Library. We had a visit from a wonderful story teller, Kathy Jessup.  We also had a very nice crowd attend. I really enjoyed the story about her mom with the cap gun trying to chase the bear.  Many of the children in the audience could relate as we are in a northern community and a number of them have had encounters with bears.  We had our Summer Reading Program after ...   Spring looks like it is finally here!!!  The snow is gone and the ground is drying up.  The sun is shining and the robins are back. And with the warmer weather, the urge to get outside and get your hands in the dirt takes over.  It certianly has for me. With that in mind, we have created a display of really good gardening and landscaping books.  We have many titles by semi-local authors Lois and Jim Hole of Hole's Gr... More...

Wow!   Great day yesterday!  Had a volunteer come in (thanks MH!) to help for a while. So while she processed patrons and shelved books, I created a new display featuring "GARDENING and LANDSCAPING" books.  We have a very good assortment of Lois and Jim Hole's gardening books, covering bulbs, vegetables, perrenials and their favorites. We also have some landscaping and organic gardening books to peruse as well. ... I have literally stumbled across some amazing Canadian authors this last year:  Will Ferguson and Joseph Boyden.  These two have provided hours of stimulating, intriguing and at time, hilarious reading. The first book of Will Ferguson's I came across was "Happyness".  A little strange at first but held my interst.  The very next book I read was also his but I only realized that after finishing it:   "Ho... Easter Eggs and Bunnies are popping up every where.  We have a special shelf of Easter and Bunny books ready for check out.  Finished painting spring flowers on the library windows today.  Best type of flowers yet, plant them and forget they are there until they need to come down (sometime in August I think).  No weeding, no watering.  And they will never need pruning or fertilizer.  Best flowers yet. I will be placi... More...
