Patron Registration Access:

As agreed upon at the last Library Manager's Council library managers now have access to modify patron records owned by other NLLS libraries.  In other words, you no longer need to ask Northern Lights' staff to change the home library of another NLLS patron.

This permission has only been given to the library manager at each library.  In the immortal (and somewhat garbled) words of uncle Ben, "you now have great power and with it great responsibility."

Holds Processing Pilot Project:

We are now shipping new library items directly to patrons with holds on them!  This means your patrons will be getting their holds filled as much as 3 weeks to a month sooner than they would otherwise.

With this new holds processing we've agreed to include mactacking... mactac... mack-tack.... We've agreed to cover paperbacks with a list price of 8.00$ or more with sticky plastic. We will also be repackaging audiobooks in hard plastic cases.  The cases will be charged back to you at cost and the price varies depending on the number of CDs in the set. See our document library for prices - here. (We are still waiitng to find out if we need to charge GST so prices may increase 5%).

As each library is equiped and capable of adding their own item records to the catalogue NLLS will no longer be adding items.  Please only send originally cataloguing items in for cataloguing.  If a bibliographic record exists when for items you send to NLLS for cataloguing do not be surprised to get them back with a copy of the adding item records instructions. :)

Library Summer Hours:

For those of you who have provided summer hours to Sharla they should now be updated in Polaris.  Please check them out under the library info tab.  Any mistakes please forward to the help desk.

Fines Procedure Change:

Thanks to everyone who filled out the fines survey recently sent out.  i believe this is nearly everyone.  If you are among the few who did not fill it out you'll find it at:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=zR2pZq9GnE9SbGTzIm99Lw_3d_3d

The change to this procedure will likely not take effect until the end of summer.  There is an enormous amount of data entry required to make the change.  As we are somewhat short staffed the task looks rather daunting at the moment :)

Creating Patron Records - Default Patron Code:

When you create a new patron record from now on the default patron code should be "standard." If you'd like a different default patron code, such as, "student" please forward a request to the help desk.

Online Training Update:

Northern Lights is working hard to provide you with relevant online training opportunities.  Please sign up for the online training being provided by EBSCO.  Visit the online training page of our website for more information.  Keep an eye on that page for future opportunities.
