St. Paul-Elk Point Regional Recreation Services Master Plan – Press release

Recreation is a significant contributor to resident quality of life in our region. Encompassing sports, parks, arts & culture, leisure pursuits, and the natural setting, recreation enriches lives and builds communities. Residents in the area enjoy quality of life due to public investment in recreation services and facilities and the efforts of various organizations and individuals working to provide recreational opportunities in the Town of St, Paul, Town of Elk Point, County of St. Paul No. 19, and the Summer Village of Horseshoe Bay.

In order to effectively make decisions about recreation provision and resource priorities, the St. Paul – Elk Point Regional Partnership is undertaking the development of a Recreation Services Master Plan. The Master Plan will assess the current state and identify priorities and recommendations regarding the provision of recreation facilities, active lifestyle and social gathering opportunities, and recreation services to meet the needs of residents and visitors into the future. RC Strategies + PERC (a planning company) has been retained to work with the partnership to complete the Master Plan.

Consultation with the community is critical to the development of the Master Plan. Community partners, organizations, and residents will be provided with opportunities to share their thoughts on the current situation and future needs. A survey will be mailed to households in the region in early 2018 to gather the opinions of area residents. As well, the perspectives of community groups will be gathered in at the same time. Please visit your local municipal website for project updates and to learn of other opportunities to share your thoughts.

The Recreation Services Master Plan is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018. For more information about the Master Plan process please contact Robert Simons, Town of St. Paul, at 780-645-3388.

Village of Elk Point Formed, 1938
In the words of J.C. Jensen "We have functioned barely a year and as the first Council we feel at this date, that justifiable pride can be taken in the solvency of the village finances, and in the local improvements that have been carried out. We do not claim infallibility but we have sincerely tried to provide the greatest good for the greatest number. We feel a pride in our village. We hope that it may grow more beautiful, become ever more conscious of the civic pride and truly be a community of which the younger growing generation can always look back to as a sphere of pleasant memories. Our aim is to foster the feeling beyond our confines, that we need them as well as their need of us."
