A Note From Our Mayor

Posted on Saturday March 01, 2008 at 10:00AM

Its official! In honor of change, the Town of St. Paul has launched our new interactive website; and it's ready for your perusal and enjoyment.

Our new interactive website allows us to be more involved with the community!

The Town of St. Paul is an exciting place to live, there is always something happening. Our new online community events calendar is where you can go to find out what's happening, in and around St. Paul. What's really exciting is the town's interactive website now allows the residents of St. Paul to submit events to our new online community events calendar! So if you are a community group, sporting team or local club, if you are having a dance, fund raiser or any other events, we encourage you to submit event information to the town's website. Its easy and only one 'click' away, just find the 'Submit Event' button on the left hand menu.

The Town of St. Paul is now able to update our website internally. This reduces our costs, allows us to provide a better service to our community and lets us put new information on the website much faster. Over the next several months, we will be adding a lot of new information to the town's website. Our municipal by-laws will all be available online, our community directories will be available online and that is just the start. We encourage you to visit the website often and see what's new. If you think there is something we should have on our website we encourage you to send us an email, you can click the 'Email Us' button on the left hand menu, we welcome your suggestions.

On behalf of the Council, we hope you enjoy the new website and we welcome any comments you may have.

Thank you,

Mayor Glenn Andersen
Town of St. Paul

Loving the Discussion Boards

I really like how you have the discussion boards. Many comments from fellow residents can be hard to swallow however it is great that the town is accepting input from the townees before proceeding with any permanent decisions. This way we get to voice our opinions. I also like how you gave us (the townees) the opportunity to suggest discussions. We can complain all we want about your suggestions however, can we come up with our own or will we just sit back in the bleachers and complain with no action.

I only have one more request that I'm sure everyone in the town would appreciate. Could you please answer all the rumors and state what businesses are REALLY coming and what ARE NEVER coming? Every week it seems there is yet another rumour. Walmarts coming, no it's not then yes it is and oh wait there's a Canadian Tire coming with a Dollarama and Payless Shoe Source. Is there anything happening with downtown and the old building? I heard Makdaddy's is turning into a shoe store and the lot next door will be a furniture store. It would be really nice if in the Journal an article was printed after every town meeting so those who were unable to attend the meeting can still be filled in on what went on. Can you put a letter in the paper stating what rumors are true and what are false?

Canada Day on Canada Day

I have heard numerous people complaining about the negative effect of "playing up" our UFO landing pad. Mainly that it will turn our town into a "laughing stock" or make us "a joke". Having fun with something that has been a part of St. Paul since 1967 is taking pride in who we are and is something that people world wide do to support their homes.

What makes this town look sad and joke-like to outsiders is that we take a National holiday like Canada Day and shift it to the day before simply because it might inconvenience some people to celebrate our Country's birthday on the first. Why is it that smaller communities in our area show greater pride in themselves than we do. Have St. Paul-ites got nothing better to do than worry about how others perceive us. Laugh it up people. We need more joy in the world and we need more pride in ourselves. I say we put on the show and laugh for the right reason rather than give the world a reason to look down on us. Canada Day on Canada Day.
Can you see Americans changing Independence Day or Lincoln's Birthday. Aren't we better than the US. We are Canadians so lets start acting like them.
