Every time I leave the house, I see people, and I wave and smile, and they wave and smile. Sometimes, there is a little conversation, a time to catch up, and I come home feeling a little happier, and a little bit a part of something. I think people need a little face to face contact with other people in their communities, and unless we build it in, we can go weeks without seeing anyone besides our own family, and immediate circle. That is why projects like walking paths, good sidewal... More...

Hello, all. I decided to make sure everyone knows about the many events that go on in our neck of the woods. However, I adore our local paper, and so will only share those events for which there is an accompanying ad in paper. I know papers are often going the way of the dodo (Look it up you young whippersnapper....) but our paper serves our community very well, and I'd like to do all I can to support it. They've certainly done all they can to support me, from musician to runn... More...

In Saskatchewan, many of our communities rely on volunteer boards to run our facilities. The rink, the pool, the park, and so many other amenities rely on volunteers to contribute endless free hours of labor for  fundraising, and general management. These groups of people are passionate about their cause, and are known to raise huge amounts of money so that the rest of the community can enjoy the amenities the town, village or hamlet has to offer. So great has our community dependency be... More...

Did you know that you can now submit your water meter readings online?  We are requesting residents with internet access to please submit their own readings at some point between now and Sunday, April 8.  The advantage to this is that the Public Works staff will have fewer homes to stop at, and you won't have to bring in a card if they happen to miss someone at home. To submit your readings go to the following link http://www.oxbow.ca/Submit-Water-Reading .  Thanks ever... More...

Some days I get a little discouraged because overall people seem sort of unhappy. Not all people, and certainly not all the time, but more often then not, and over things I don't understand. So, in interest of creating a little light, I thought I'd share with you some things that I love about growing up in small town Saskatchewan in the sixties and seventies. 1.I used to take a note to the grocery store and pick up things for mom, and cigarettes for dad and tell them, just put it on the b... So, this morning I was bopping around the kitchen, making french toast, enjoying the morning off with the mister,  listening to classic rock on the radio. Smoke on the Water came on the radio, and before I know it, I'm dancing for real...full of joy!! Smoke on the Water...wow...WOW, the first song I ever learned on dad's electric guitar. First song a lot of us learned on guitar I think. Dad didn't actually play, as far as I know, but the guitar was his. I have it now. I remember sitt... More...

What if we smaller population communities worked together, I mean really worked together?  What if we could set aside rivalries that go back generations and start looking at practical solutions? What if we could create our own economies through  partnerships, businesses that complement each other, social enterprises and entrepreneurship? What if we could create a multi-community development corporation that put all of the communities on the same side, instead of competing with ... More...

For some, it seems obvious that municipalities take a leadership role in community economic development. The assumption is, that 'they' should be doing 'something' to make sure the town has all it needs to grow economically. There are resources. SEDA, SUMA, Community Futures, and any number of programs, entities, and consultants exist to provide supports. But...but...consider these. points:  1. The training that Administrators get in order to be Administrators does not include anyth... More...
